Mapping 101

The Superheroes are very serious about mapping!  We applied what we know about symbols and how they are used to communicate with this group activity.  The final products can be found on our bulletin board and on the first grade bulletin board by kinder hallway.
Don't forget to ask your superhero about it!

Rodeo Art

Congratulations to Kiara!!!  Mrs. Cowan said everyone at the rodeo was surprised she was bringing in work from first graders.  Then they were amazed at the detail and colors!  Way to go Kiara!!!

Art A La Carte

Thanks to Teddy's mom for the first Art A la Carte lesson of 2017.
We listened to a little jazz music and created masterpieces!

Testing Fun

Who said testing can't be fun!!  Today The Superheroes worked in cooperative groups to take a science test.  The students had to scan a QR code to read the question and then work together to figure out the answer.

Science Station

In case you wondering if it's true - yes I did take a violin out of the trash!  I checked with the violin teacher who said it was destroyed and we could use it.  I put it in the science station and we are having a great time exploring how it works (or in this case doesn't work).

Morning Meeting

Did you know that every morning we meet together to greet each other and do a fun activity together?  It's such a great way to start the day.
Everyone feels special and there are lots of smiles and giggles!

Happy New Year!!

Wow, how time flies...  I forgot to post this picture and now the end of January is here!  The Superheroes continue to work on goals everyday.  One teacher who was visiting heard a student exclaim, "I'm going to work on being open-minded today."

Morning Tubs

This year we have started a new morning routine that allows the students to explore their creativity, sense of play and cooperation.  They are called morning tubs.   Each tub is filled with different items related to our curriculum.  The students' goal is to work together and create something as a team.  The great part is that the students also practiced their ATL (approaches to learning) Skills previously called PYP Transdisciplinary Skills.  (click here to find out more:  http://www2.amersol.edu.pe/es/pyp/PYPskills.asp)
The students are excited to get to class to see what they will be exploring today!

Cloud Experiment

Today we applied what we have learned about the different types of clouds to a cloud experiment.  We were wondering if we could make it rain!   We knew about two types of clouds that can produce precipitation:  the stratus cloud and the cumulonimbus cloud.   And we knew the attributes of both.  The next step was to create a model of the cloud with cotton balls and then add water!  Here's what we noticed.  If it's a stratus cloud you don't need as many water drops to make it rain.  The cotton ball gets heavier and heavier until the water comes out of the bottom.  We thought it would take ten or maybe even twenty drops of water to make it rain, but we were wrong!

Gingerbread House Melted???

I'm sad to report that our amazing gingerbread house did not survive the winter break.  The structure we designed seemed very strong, but we were wrong.  I loved it one student said we could try again just like the three little pigs did!!  So, it's back to the drawing board!

Happy New Year!!

You cannot tell from the post what we are up to!  You will have to wait for January 4th.
You can see that all The Superheroes are hard at work!

Gingerbread Stories

We ended the week with a big surprise!  Our fifth grade buddies hung out with us all morning
and helped us to write our very own gingerbread stories!  Ms. Dennis brought gingerbread cookies
and we mapped out our ideas and what our gingerbread character would say.
Then we took a museum walk to take a look at everyone's stories.
I hope your Superhero remembered to share their story with you.
