Here's the great thing about our school community... A fourth grade teacher is telling me about what her students are studying (birds of prey) and I exclaimed, "Oh my gosh, my students are very curious about that topic. Can your students come and make a presentation?" The teacher said, " Of course!" Several fourth graders came to share with us about Snowy Owls, Red Kites, Eagles and other birds. It was all very exciting and informative. The best part was they left owl pellets for us to explore just like a scientist would! We worked in groups to discover what animal the owl had eaten.

This is a very exciting and exploratory hands-on fun scientific lesson experience . I have had many opportunities to do the same and loved watching how excited the children were they found bits and pieces of hair, feather and bone! I myself always marveled at how much of a story was in one pellet! Were your children grossed out by touching and digging through the pellets ?!! What culminating activity did you actually do with this investigation ? And finally where you able to make a conclusive determination as to which animal the owl had recently have for dinner ? There is of course no way he could've had breakfast or lunch now is it ? Do the children understand
