Space Trading Cards

We ended our planner on the Final Frontier with a space trading card assignment. Students were required to complete a trading card for the 8 planets (Pluto is a dwarf planet) and any other star, galaxy or satellite that they wanted to. Each card required four facts to be listed on the back. We began by sorting and categorizing our cards to show our knowledge of the Solar System. The last step was to trade our creations. This created a huge problem when one student created cards that everyone wanted. The Discoverers quickly realized that the demand did not meet the supply! Using our knowledge about economics from a previous planner, several students came up with a plan to make more and market the cards for a dollar each! If you are interested in a set of trading cards of the planets please contact The Discoverers!

Our Second Place Winner!

Auction Item

Did you happen to see this amazing architectural piece of art? Thank you to Mrs. Gerhardt for creating this classroom creation! The Discoverers did an excellent job of choosing a well-known architectural structure and then recreating it on paper. Well Done!

Found Poetry Part II

If you recall found poetry is poetry found in the words written by someone else. The Discoverers read the book, My Friend, The Starfinder and used the words in a new way. Each group then illustrated the words. The results were magical. Great Job, Discoverers!

Earth Hour at Ms. Musters' House

You can't see much because the lights are out! My house is on the left and my mom's house is on the right. We went for a walk and looked at the moon and spent time visiting with our neighbors. What did you do for Earth Hour?

One Hour No Power

Don't forget tonight from 8:30 to 9:30PM Turn off your lights and help to save our planet. Go to www.earthhour.org to see images of this event from around the world.

Earth Hour

The Discoverers are working on ways to take action to help save our planet! We have made videos, posters, brochures and presentations to inform others about Earth Hour. Earth Hour is this Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 PM. Please go to www.earthhour.org for more information. Remember TURN off your lights and help stop climate change. Make a difference!

Found Poetry

We continue to work on our skills as writers. Today we tried 'found poetry.' We took the words from a story and worked in cooperative groups to put them together in a new way.

Yikes! Symmetry can be scary!

The Discoverers created masks using symmetry in Mrs. Cowan's art class.

Race To The Moon

Race to the Moon is the story of the Apollo 11 flight. We practiced asking "thick and thin" questions with this non-fiction book. A "thin" question is a question that is easily found such as: What year was the flight? A "thick" question is a question that you have to think about such as: Why are Neil Armstrong's footprints still on the moon? We then created a story bag with a picture clue on the front to be used to retell the events of Apollo 11. When I asked the students why we were doing this project they replied, "because we need to learn and it should be fun!"
