Mark Twain SuperStar Celebration

Students at Mark Twain Elementary received an unexpected treat Friday afternoon! On the way to the cafeteria one of my students remarked, "maybe we will get candy!" They were in for a much bigger treat!! Staff and office personal treated us to a star studded affair with music from: The Jonas Brothers: Mr. Lowry, Mr. Jeremiah and Coach Jody, Hannah Montana: Mrs. Patin, Taylor Swift: Mrs. Gee, Beyonce: Mrs. Black and none other than Mr. Baker as Michael Jackson. Can you hear the screams!!!

Newspaper Tower

The Discoverers explored how to make the tallest free-standing tower. We used two sheets of newspaper and a ruler. Each pair of students brainstormed ways to make the structure stronger like creating a firm foundation or folding and rolling the paper.

Ready to begin in 2010!!

The Discoverers wrote goals for themselves for 2010:

*My goal is to improve on reading because I sometimes don't understand the question.
*My goal is to improve my handwriting.
*I want to know multiplication better and better.
*My goal is to be more respectful to others.
*My goal is to get better counting by nines.
*My goal is to start memorizing my math facts to become an expert.

Our last day together in 2009!

We spent the morning contemplating what we wanted to improve upon for 2010. The Discoverers, of course, had some great ideas! Here we are preparing our hats, our goals, and our pictures for 2010!

Spreading Holiday Cheer

The Discoverers were very excited when they found about the YMCA gift program. They were ready to get our special friend whatever she needed. I love that caring attitude! We were not able to walk over to the Y because of the rainy weather, but here is a picture showing the generosity of our classroom. Again, Thank you to our wonderful parents for helping with this important cause.

Holiday Party

The Discoverers had a wonderful time creating and eating their designs. Thank you to all the parents for your help and contributions in making this a very successful party. What a great way to end 2009...

Geometry Trees

I like how each tree is unique and special in its own way just like the Discoverers!

Architecture of a tree

We explored the basic shapes you may find when looking at a building to create our own interpretation of a holiday tree.
