Winner of Create a BookMark

Huh? By Gloria

I was just reading The Amazing Adventures of Reading on the couch. It was such a good book until my mother called me to come and eat. I slipped my bookmark in my book and went to eat. Huh! Why did I have to stop reading. I wish I were reading all day and night! Then suddenly my book flew open and sucked me right in. I woke up feeling strangely flat. I looked up and there was a mirror in front of me. I screamed. I was a bookmark. I was the bookmark that I designed. I screamed again.
"Honey wake up!" my mother yelled. I woke up and jumped around. "Am I sill a bookmark?" "What?," my mom asked as I looked in the mirror. I sighed as I saw in the mirror that I was a little girl. "Never mind."

Mrs. Baird's Bakery

I think this field trip counts as one of our favorites! Unfortunately, we can not show you any amazing photos of the factory because we were not allowed to take any. You will just have to ask your child for the details. It was a great way to end our planner on economics. Upon returning to school we decided to write letters to say thank you. Here are some excerpts:

*I had a spectacular experience.

*I really enjoyed the tour you gave me and I learned alot of new things.

*Thanks for answering all our questions in a way we could all understand it.

*Thank you for letting us see all those capital resources.

*But now you guys use captial resources (which are machines) instead of human resources.

*When the bus pulled up to the factory it smelled so good it felt like I was in heaven.

*I really appreciate that you took some time our of your day to show us the factory!

Bakery Field Trip

Mrs. Baird's Bakery: We can not take pictures in the factory so you will only see us getting ready for the tour. After the tour, we had to sit on the bus and wait for the other class. The Soaring Pilots had a great time together as you can see and the time soared by!

How We Organize Ourselves

As part of our economic planner, we explored assembly lines and the types of resources required to make an assembly line work. In the classroom, we tried various ways of weaving paper rugs using this method. After establishing, a boss, two assistant managers and a quality control station we ended up with over 23 "rugs." The Soaring Pilots began to brainstorm who would want these and could they create a demand to sell them. As we continued to work together to figure out this dilemma the idea for a store emerged. Products were created, demand was created and a time for the store was advertised. As you can see, the store was a hugh hit and we ended up selling out of many products. The next step is to budget our profit by spending some, saving some and donating to a worthy cause.

Production Day for Imagination Creations

Here are The Soaring Pilots working on production of their goods for the store. Some friends are working on duct tape products, paper products or journals. Others are working on how to create a demand for the products and invitations to come to the store.

The end result was very successful! Keep watching to the end and you will see why!

Great job, Soaring Pilots!

Our Store

Throughout our economic planner we have been discussing supply and demand, producers and consumers and wants and needs. We have learned how an assembly line uses natural resources, human resources and capital resources. We actually created an assembly line in the classroom to produce woven paper rugs!! This has led to many discussions about selling our products. The question was how to create a demand for the supply that we had. After numerous discussions, we ended up with three products created by The Soaring Pilots. Next step, advertising to create a demand! An ad was created and groups of students went to visit classroom teachers, office personal and ancillary teachers to create a demand!
