Pep Rally Part I

Pep Rally??

We were not quite sure what a pep rally was???  but we had lots of fun anyway!  IT was filled with a lot of surprises...  the Twain tiger,  the dancing teachers AND a dancing principal!

Daily News

At the end of each day we reflect on our learning.  The students dictate to me what to write.
It is always a great discussion and a great way to end the day!  The latest news will be posted outside our classroom door.  Use it to engage in discussions with your child!

The Newest Craze

The Superheroes have found a new passion!  Writing Books!  and I couldn't be happier.   We are writing about donuts, superheroes and dinosaurs.  I am making books all day!

Where We Are in Time and Place

We are exploring the idea that people all over the world communicate using symbols and pictures.   One way is by creating maps.  We are learning there are all different kinds of maps with different purposes.  This week we are exploring Heart Mapping as a way to find our stories.
We will use the heart maps to help guide us during Writing Workshop.
We will never again have to say, "I have nothing to write about!"

Turn And Talk

One of our favorite ways to use our communication skills is to turn and talk.
The students are given a topic and then they turn to a partner and share.
When your partner is done speaking, then it is your turn.
After a few minutes I call the students back together and they let me know what their partner said.

Taking Action

One component of our  Primary Years Programme is to have students take action.
When they do it outside of the classroom you feel a sense of success.
Today this group of girls cleaned up ALL the jackets that were left on our beautiful Spark Park.
I love the way they took responsibility for this space that we are so grateful for.
Of course, I passed on the photo to Mrs. Patin so she would know
how the Superheroes were taking action!

Morning Tubs

The Superheroes were very excited to get back to a normal routine.   We start our day with Morning Tubs.  Each cooperative group is given various items for exploration.  We develop our Approaches to Learning as we work together as a team.

Winter Holiday Party

We ended the year 2017 in style - with a fantastic party.   There were treats to eat and create.  A station with pipe cleaners and beads.  Another station to make special ornaments with our own pictures!  It was a fabulous end to a fabulous day.   A special thank you to my amazing room parents and to ALL the parents who helped make this special day happen.

Live action shot of crawling!

Next Event - I don't know!

This was a crazy event where the students had to beat the other class by crawling across the pavilion.

Event Three - Jump Rope!

Event Two - Sack Race

Got some great actions shots of the kids jumping like crazy to get to the finish line!

First Event

Look at that sky! and that Spark Park!  First event take your shoes off and put them in a pile.  Next, run and find your own shoes and get them back on!  Lots of fun!!!

FIELD DAY!!

We could not have asked for a more perfect day for our Field Day!

Our Snowy Day

Our snowy day in the classroom continued with our own adventures.  The Superheroes developed the plot of a story involving snow.  After writing their own adventure, they were able to create a snowy picture with glitter to go with the story.

A Snowy Day

The recent snowy day in Houston inspired me to create a snowy day in the classroom.  We started by reading The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.  This led to a class discussion about clouds and how the snow was created.  Next, we took a few basic ingredients: baking soda and creme rinse to create our own snow.   The dry and wet ingredients together formed a cold wet clay like mixture!  We used the snow to create our own snowballs and snowmen.  The best thing is it didn't melt!
