The Butterfly Project

One way we choose to make a difference, was to teach others about the Butterfly Project. The Butterfly Project is an effort by the Holocaust Museum of Houston to memorialize the Jewish children who perished during the Holocaust. The Fantastic Frogs went to first grade to teach that you should not like someone just because of their religion. They did a great job and the resulting butterflies are hanging in the stairwell.

Adinkra Symbols

The Fantastic Frogs were inspired by the Adinkra Symbols we found on our recent field trip to the African American Library. We decided to incorporate the idea with our idea of presenting a speech from a Human Rights leader. First we researched the person we were interested in and took notes about their life, their obstacles and what rights they believed in. Next, we developed a symbol that would represent this individual. In the process, we decided we needed a symbol to represent us: The Fantastic Frogs. After much discussion, the symbol is the world and the word: Knowledge. The conclusion was that we have learned about the world from our planners and have gained knowledge which we can use to teach others and make a difference.
